Warmest Wishes for Joyful Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving really is a special time to reflect and be thankful for the many blessing in our lives. It’s a time to be thankful for great families, caring friends, fortunate events, amazing communities, and all the gifts of life we’re lucky to have. At De Ruijter USA, we’re especially thankful for all the wonderful friends, coworkers, customers, community members, and readers like you! We wish you the happiest of Thanksgivings!

In the spirit of the holiday, here’s a list of some of our favorite Thanksgiving weekend activities…
1. Gather with Family & Friends.
These days it can be hard to keep in touch with those you hold dearest in your heart. Families get spread out; friends can lose touch. Take some time to reconnect!
2. Stay in and Sleep in!
There is no written rule that says you have to leave or get involved in any of the festivities. You can choose to just sleep all through the holiday and really recharge your batteries!
3. Start Your Holiday Gift Buying (or at least make a list)!
Whether you like to brave the crowds and take part in the Black Friday craziness, or you prefer to wear sweats and do some online shopping from your living room… happy shopping!
4. Eat Delicious Food
Thanksgiving only comes once a year, so dig in! Gobble up that comfort food and dive into the pies. Sure, you might gain a pound or two, but you can always burn that off before the spring and summer anyway. (Everyone needs a New Year’s Resolution!)
5. Are you ready for some Football?
In America, Thanksgiving Day is a big day for football lovers. NFL games are as much a part of Thanksgiving as the turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie!

Here’s the NFL lineup for Thanksgiving Day:
·         Packers vs. Lions – 12:30 PM (ET) on FOX
·         Raiders vs. Cowboys - 4:30 PM (ET) on CBS
·         Steelers vs. Ravens - 8:30 PM (ET) on NBC
6. Watch Movies
It’s that time of year to watch the movies that spread some light and easy holiday cheer, and there are many to choose from. Here are a few that make it onto most Thanksgiving Day movies lists.
1.       Planes, Trains and Automobiles
2.       Dutch
3.       A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
4.       It’s a Wonderful Life
5.       Grumpy Old Men
6.       Home for the Holidays
7.       Miracle on 34th Street
8.       Pocahontas
9.       Son in Law
10.   Garfield’s Thanksgiving
7. Get Crafty
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time, along with Christmas and New Year’s, to get in touch with your inner-Martha Stewart. It’s time to cut out and color some paper turkeys. It’s time to make Christmas decorations out of popcorn. It’s time to make some caramel apples and special holiday treats. Before you know it Thanksgiving is over and it’s back to the grindstone. Might as well make the most of it, right?
8. A little motivation…
Many local organizations or companies organize a 5K or 10K Turkey Trot. Participating in such an event allows you to raise money for an organization while getting your exercise! (and it might help you relieve some of the guilt of that Thanksgiving Day dessert!)
9. Volunteer at or Donate to a Food Bank!
Thanksgiving is not only a time to indulge, but it is also a time to serve people around you. Help sort turkeys, canned food items, or pies at a local food bank or soup kitchen so that they can deliver these items to families in need.
10. Crank up the Tunes
If you’re anything like us, we really love Thanksgiving (and want to give it the time it deserves), but once the turkey’s gone it’s time to bust out the holiday music and work on getting that tree up!
